Your girls are BACK with what you’ve requested — more walk-throughs of scripture!

For the rest of the summer, we’re diving into Psalms, giving context, sharing vulnerable places each passage hits for us, and helping you see your story through the lens of the Bible.

In this episode, we go all into Psalm 3: talking about sleeplessness, anxiety, fear of death, and so much more. Stay tuned as we continue to dive into the Psalms and show you how it can apply to your life!

“We want to talk about the things that you aren’t going to hear on a Sunday morning.” - Nicoletta Bradley

Let’s start with some context on the Psalms:

  • The book of Psalms is in the middle of your Bible in the Old Testament

  • Mostly written by King David

  • The Psalms are literally songs that were songs of lament, sorrow, etc; aka, LORD I NEED YOU!!! If you are a feeler like us, this book is def for you.

  • The Psalms are also tied to diff books throughout the Bible: for example, Psalm 3 comes from 2 Samuel when David was fleeing from Jerusalem when his son was out to kill him. So it’s basically like David’s journal reflecting on his life!

“If the Psalms were written today, it would 150 psalms about anxiety. about singleness. feelings about not hearing God’s voice; feeling abandoned by god. fear of the unknown.”

Alright, with that, let’s dive into Psalm 3:

O Lord, how many are my foes! How many rise up against me! Many are saying of me: ‘God will not deliver him’.

But you are a shield around me, O Lord. You bestow glory on me and lift up my head. To the Lord I cry aloud and he answers me from his holy hill.

I lie down and sleep; I wake again because the Lord sustains me. I will not fear the tens of thousands drawn up against me on every side.

Arise, O Lord, deliver me my God! Strike all my enemies on the jaw; break the teeth of the wicked.

From the Lord comes deliverance, and may your blessings be on your people.

main takeaways from psalm 3

  1. What if you went to bed every night knowing that God is the shield around you? We can lie in peace and rest knowing that God’s got us! If we wake up tomorrow morning, it’s because God woke us up and He is not done yet.

  2. The only way David was able to lie down & sleep was by rehearsing God’s faithfulness: if you are going to bed anxious, the Lord wants to deliver you! But are you asking Him to? Are you crying out to Him?

  3. David doesn’t waiver in his belief in God even when others are going against him.

  4. David knew that his life was secure; he knew that God would either take him home or take him further.

  5. This Psalm is a reminder to trust God within your fear: fear of the unknown, the future, etc.
